The image is still there, the edit info ( the sidecar files) are there still
there, but the ability to change the ORIGINAL image though the use of the
sidecar file is lost.
What you have left is the original unedited image and the (now useless)
sidecar file.

There is no program I know of that will take in the Sidecar file and modify
the image other than the original Adobe SW.

You can read the original DNG image file. But it will not have any edits (
that you spent hours on)

If you were to make TIFF files ( or other, presumably including JPG files)
as the output from LR, then those files WOULD contain all the edits. Those
new image files would be alterable by any other SW package.

The issue is to the original DNG files..... ( or Nikon or Canon or etc.
versions ). I think the JPG files etc. are acted upon differently.... I
think.....

Frank,

I don't think that your edited image info is lost if you write your changes
to the xmp or dng files... Assuming that your other software can read the
data contained in the wrapper.

stored as sidecarfiles. (as instructions). The original image is not
changed/. When nextyou open an image, the instructions are opened and acted
upon.. All of this means, they own us forever at $10 or whatever they wish
tocharge per month forever. If you stop paying, image edits are lost for
ALLyour images. And people wonder why myself, and Nathan and others hate
the idea ofsubscription software.. Frank FilipponeRed735i at verizon.net
