If focus shifting ( the change of focus plane with change of aperture) is a consideration, then check your focus again AFTER you set taking aperture and make final SMALL adjustments. There are only a few lenses that focus shifting is a consideration..... the 35 Lux FLE ( first version ) is one of them. Other lenses were not designed to have this problem and therefore do not worry using them.... ( 50 LUX ASPH) I should mention that even with a Digi-Leica camera body, focus shifting is an issue. It is inherent in the specific lens design. There is no camera body based fix possible. With a EVF, you have the ability to correct it.... Using more DOF ( smaller aperture) will help mask this error source. Your other choice is to not use focus shifting lenses..... or suffer trying to get really sharp focus on your subject by focusing initially at shooting aperture, which will be frustrating, especially at F32 ( for example). At F1.0 a Nocti is easy to set at precise focus using my technique. The correct focus plane POPS into focus. Trying this at smaller aperture, the focus plane can be found, but it is not as obvious nor does it POP into focus. This is all a lot of verbiage. If you try it with a real camera and lens, you will find how easy and accurately it works. This method is slooooooow. It is however, more accurate than the Digi-M you might be using, or your AF Nikon, Canon or Leica SL body in AF or MF mode. AND when your M9 camera breaks on day 8 of your 42 day trip to Canada, it is a photographic life saver. Do you want to use it on every shot you ever take in the future? Including your 3 year old grandkids who move like whirlwinds? Probably not the right tool.
