In summer it was a trickle through a sandy bed with sunbathers in winter it could flood up to 1km wide (according to my odometer crossing it on the raised road after the bridge at Mornay-sur-Allier). I read it is the only big river left in France without flow control. The confluence of the Allier and Loire is about 15km north.
