Hello Barney,
The local climate is a result of the jet stream moving north allowing much
more than normal warm wet air to come from the caribbean and larger gulf.
Another result has been strong winds moving the arctic ice sheet more
compact and thicker. When we were in central Europe the same conditions
had caused a serious lack of rainfall in the Rhine and Danube watersheds
causing low water levels: for central Europe the souther winds bring dry
air from Asia. I don't think this particular change is part of the larger
climate debate and has more to do with the random variability of climate.

Any of our commercial pilot friends can chime in on the jet stream as that
has a major impact on routes between N America, Europe, and northern Asia.

All the best.
