They were the easiest things to steal if the steering lock wasn't put 
on, Nathan. All you had to do was open the side box where the ignition 
key was sited, unscrew the ignition key block from the frame - two 
screws - and wrap the block in cloth to isolate it. They would start 
first kick and away you went. They needed to have the steering lock 
applied too, but people forgot about it. I rode around on my own one 
like that when the key broke in the lock after a fall - vigorous riding, 
1960s Yokohama tyres and moist Irish roads never went particularly well 
together.
