LUGs,

The R8 electric cable release (a fancy name for an overpriced piece 
of wire with a switch at one end and an impossible-to-find 
connector at the other) recently began acting erratically.  
Sometimes it would activate the winder as it should, sometimes it 
would do so only after the shutter release was pressed enough to 
turn on the LCD panel.

The problem now seems to be resolved. A good rubbing of all the 
contacts on both the winder and the body has set things right. For 
the record,  I used a cotton handkerchief, not anyone's undies.
