Doesn't cost thousands, The 50 Summicron is the cheapest hunk of glass in the lineup. 2. When they want to come out with a special purpose optic, 9 out of 10 it's going to be done on a 50! Super high speed lens? put it on a 50! Super compact lens? make that a 50 as well. Blitz lens? a 50. Macro? one more 50. The idea of owning multiple 50's is not a big splurge. It could make some sense in the end. A lot of different tools with the same focal length! (or similar) ...for a lot of different jobs. Mark Rabiner
