I'll be that there are a whole lot of LHSA members who don't take photos with them, but instead take photos OF them.;-) B. L.... BD's right. It is a hoot. But you know, if you take the price of dues for the price of the camera, you could take this whole issue as a metaphor for the fate of the Leica camera itself. Destined to become more and more a collectible in the hands of a few. It's uncanny. In the future, some members of the LHSA may not even take pictures with them! L.... Damn, this LHSA dispute is a hoot - certainly the most entertaining thread of the summer. Let me see if I understand it: The organization is static, and largely made up of a bunch of old crocks, who sooner or later will shuffle off to Solmes In The Sky. In order to suck in new blood, a couple of board members came up with the hardly original idea of offering discounted dues - for a fixed period - to new members, just as virtually every organization out there does at one time or another. And in response to this perfectly normal proposal, long time members of the organization say: They are being ripped off; New members will join just for the discount even though they won't understand what the organization is about; Letting new members in at a discount is screwing the old members, so, by logical extension, let's not do it and let the organization wither and die instead. What a hoot! :-) B. Many Sections (e.g. Business Law Section, Litigation Section, General Practice Section etc.) within the American Bar Association offer free first-year Section membership to A.B.A. members as an inducement to join. Some who take advantage of these offers drop after the free year; most see that the benefits are well worth the dues and continue their memberships. I assume that LHSA will have a similar experience. I believe that the very large majority of LUG members will find, as I did for over 25 years, that LHSA publications alone are well worth the $50./year dues. Could I be wrong? Sure. It's happened before; I think it was in 1967 :-) Best to all, Seth LaK 9 - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
