The D10 and D60 and D300 all use the exact same CMOS chip. I'm not sure
about the
G5, though I doubt it. I have a G3 and it's MUCH noisier than the
DSLRs. I bought a D300 because it was such a good deal I couldn't pass
it up. But in the long run, I'll get either the D10 or the 1D Mark II.
It's still pretty accepted most places I've read the Canon CMOS chips
are better than Nikon in noise. And now with the D1 Mark II,
performance has surpassed Nikon's CCD chips as well. But in the end, I
don't think you could go wrong with either system. And I bet whatever
Leica comes out with will be just as good too in real terms. Noise is
also a function of software. And there is software coming in the market
to reduce noise post-exposure.
Anyway, I think we ought to steer back to Leica talk. :-)
