A bit higher pitched than the Leica, but about the same. My Olympus E-1 sounds no louder than my M - honest. It's a different sound, but not a louder sound. The M is NOT silent. Quiet, yes, but this whole "quiet" and "silent" thing is in comparison to the loud, whiney motor driven SLRs.....The diffence in sound between a Leica M and the mental Bessa/Cosina/Zeiss shutter isn't going to cost anyone any shots... But again I stress that I have not seen this camera, and it may turn out to be a total piece of crap - in which case this discussion is meaningless, and what I've said is dead wrong. :-) -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Didier Ludwig Sent: Saturday, October 02, 2004 6:52 PM To: Leica Users Group Subject: RE: [Leica] Zeiss Ikon You forgot one point that will probably stay in favor of the Leicas: the shutter noise. Ok, the silence of the cloth shutter is the price for the 1/1000 limit, but the metal shutter of the ZI will be louder for shure. And there are a lot of "ifs" remaining until the Zeiss features have been tested and confirmed by at least 50 LUGger's - with the M we know what we have. A M doesn't need a warranty - it is one.
