My mother is at the age now (80's) that she feels she is entitled to
make inappropriate offhand remarks at the worst possible places. I now
don't fly with her because she says crap like "We'll all be dead within
the next hour" while standing waiting to get on the plane. Frontal lobe
degeneration, I guess.

The times are a changin'.

I am always amazed at the different worlds we all live in. Usually when
I fly I am dressed very casually, have a packed Domke, and have only had
trouble when I forgot to take off my shoes. Right after 9/11 I got the
full Monty seven out of eight times I flew but it was never more than a
few minutes of rummaging through socks and toothpaste before I was back
in line.

Stupid things I have done lately:
I discussed with my daughter in front of a group of newly minted airport
security people the pros and cons of suicide bombing as a political
tactic.

Used my camera frequently in the Washington D.C metro stations on
whatever line goes by the Pentagon and Federal Triangle.

On whatever bridge in Boston that has the wonderful architecture before
you go into the tunnels to get to Logan stopped the car and took
pictures of the bridge and the sight line down the river.

Gasp, took pictures of the F.B.I. building from various angles just
after the Reagan procession.

No hassle, no questions, no glares, no idling engine in the background.
I have however been harassed by a rent a p-- while taking pictures of
the stone work at a private club here in Atlanta. Now that was funny,
some private guy trying to threaten me when I was on the sidewalk taking
pictures of a wall. Smile, take the last image, and wander off.

Of course I could talk about my brothers medical adventures with Israeli
security. Now those guys know how to do the full Monty. :)
