Philippe,
Sometimes you can get what is called grain aliasing.  Simply the repeating
pattern of the grain is at a frequency that is some multiple of the scanner
frequency which can provide the illusion of grain.

Maybe three years ago we had a long discussion of this; check the archives
as it went on for a fair amount of time.
