I was pondering it versus the Epson 3800. The Epson is less expensive--but no roll attachment, so it'll be more expensive to use in the long run. Well, yesterday I took a demo file of Miss April 2006 to a Canon open house. A politically correct file, of course. Prints were made on an iPF9000, the 5000's big brother. Same print heads and inks. Same everything, only much, much wider. Anyway, I took upsized files of 60 mb and 900+ mb of the same shot. I asked the demo operator to print something in the 30 x 40 range. She said, "Oh, heck, we're running 60 inch-wide paper; might as well fill it up." The 40 x 60 from the near-1gb file was stunning. As in jaw-dropping. Next, a 40 x 60 was printed from the 60 mb file. The superiority of the first print is the only reason the second qualifies as merely magnificent. The downside to all this is that I'll always know my 17"-wide iPF5000 is rather punkish compared to the 60" iPF9000. I have been to the mountain, brother, and when it comes to printing Playmates, size matters. So, Wade, get a little Epson 2400. And suffer with me. -Chris Lawson -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "Wade Heninger" <heninger@adobe.com> > I need to decide on which Epson printer to buy for output. > > > > I do mostly B/W and mostly its going to be on Epson Glossy Pro or the > Museo Silver Rag paper. > > > > I'm mainly hoping for longevity and prints that approach or exceed what > I can do in the darkroom.
