It's just the cheapest way to make a textile bag (or a leather one) slashproof. > I don't want to sound patronising, I'm all in favour of being > careful, but > this does seem a little paranoid - I've travelled a lot in Europe In Europe, it may be paranoid. I wouldn't know, it's not high enough on my life list of places to go that I'll ever get there. NOT in Europe, though.... Well.... Allow me to introduce you to Ricky The Razor, proprietor of Ramirez's Slashed-Price Cutting-Edge Second-Hand Camera Store, located in beautiful downtown Ciudad Perdido at the corner of Pinche Gringo and Calle Ladrón. He's got almost anything you want, previously owned by a little old tourist guy from somewhere in North America who left in a hurry. Oy, almost forgot. Razor does special order, too. Come back anytime after about, oh, midnight or so. Care to guess where he gets his stock? (Hint: It rhymes with "Damn I wish I hadn't laughed about the chicken wire...") I can probably dig up the pacsafe with the razor marks. I'm fairly sure my ol' running buddy got rid of the bottomless Domke with the Aviacsa tags, though. (It didn't get called "the bottomless Domke" because it held a lot.) Saw a razor artist in the Plaza San Francisco in Quito take a nikon on a factory strap off a guy's shoulder without even ruffling his shirt once. He was about 25 yards away before the tourist even noticed. It was impressive work. You're only paranoid when they're not out there. They're out there. ;-> -- R.
