He's not a bad guy but his world DOES look an awful lot like he does, if you follow me. He stopped, looked at me, looked around, looked back at my obviously thoroughly Anglo-Saxon Scots self, and said... "You live HERE? You're either a LOT braver or a LOT crazier than we thought you were...." I smiled.. "¿Por que?" "Oh. You speak the language?" "Si, claro." (Yeah, digging him a little...) "Oh. Well, have fun...." Reality is what it is. You either ignore it and get run over, obsess and run yourself over, or shrug, take reasonable precautions, and go on with what you were doing. I have insurance and alarms on my truck, anti-slash and anti-theft gear on my camera and computer bags, working fire alarms in each room, and deadbolt locks on my doors. Aside from keeping all of those things in good working order (new batteries once a year or so...) I daresay I worry a LOT less than the people next door in the nice gated/fenced complex with the cardkeys and the armed guards and the concertina wire at the top of the fence. And I traditionally eat dessert first because you just never know.... -- R.
