Little things too - he was a wonderful cook and always baked bread on Fridays, didn't much like cats (he always said) but they always sat on his lap, and he was always the one who cried when they ("that useless animal") died. His strength of character and determination in recovering from a stroke three years ago still amazes me. If have a lot to thank him for, but the last 30 years in Germany sadly gave me far too few opportunities to say it all. I still treasure the letter he wrote to me when I moved here so many years ago, wishing me every success, and the opportunity to see the many countries of the world he saw during the war, but in times of peace. I would have loved to have visited them with him - Ceylon, Egypt, India, Libya, Syria, Malta, Italy, South Africa, and he loved the Lebanon - but I ended up where he ended up when the war was over, here in Germany. Thank you again for your message and your kind thoughts, Frauke, Florian and I wish you and your family all the best for the festive season and the New Year Tina Manley wrote: > Doug - > > My thoughts are with you.
