In the case of B&H and Adorama, both businesses run by orthodox Jews, they close earlier on Friday to give their employees a chance to make it home in time for Shabbos. Also, in orthodox Judaism you aren't supposed to drive, take trains, or carry money during Shabbos, making it all the more important for their employees to get home in time.
