Press release follows: Harry Benson, the internationally renowned Scottish photographer, will be speaking to Brentwood Camera Club members on April 1 at the Otter Creek Church. The public is invited to attend this free lecture sponsored by Canon and the Brentwood Camera Club. American audiences first became aware of Mr. Benson during the sixties when he chronicled the travels, performances and lifestyle of the Beatles. His fifty-year body of work includes photographs of every American President since Dwight D. Eisenhower, portraits of celebrities from Elizabeth Taylor to Andy Warhol and war-zone photo-essays. As a photojournalist he was within arms reach of Bobby Kennedy when he was shot and on hand with camera, of course, during President Nixon?s resignation. He also presented us with images of the Watts riots, the fall of Czechoslovakia, Romania and the wreckage of the Twin Towers on 9/11. He was there when the Berlin Wall went up, and came down. His camera was our lens to the first US casualty in Bosnia and the firefights in Kosovo. Mr. Benson has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including the National Press Photographers Association (N.P.P.A.) ?Pictures of the Year? Award. His photographs are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC and in the Presidential Libraries of: Nixon, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Bush, and Truman. His work is exhibited in galleries throughout the world. This event marks a rare visit by Mr. Benson to our area and the community is encouraged to attend this special event.
