As I just replied to Tim, I've never experienced that. Yes, of course
HIE has to be loaded and unloaded in the dark as do most less
sensitive IR films, but I've never had fogging through the shutter
curtains. I mainly used one M4 that I bought new about 1972, but
before that I used a Ig. Both those cameras were perfect for IR.
Fogging through the curtains was never an issue for me and while most
of my shooting has been in Canada in the summer (main IR shooting
season) the sun is as bright as in California. Heat is not an issue
as HIE isn't heat sensitive in the sense that infrared in the
spectral region of heat could fog it. 'Baking' it is obviously a bad
idea and will fog it as it will any other high sensitivity film.
I've also heard from some people that they had problems with various
4x5 sheet film holders. For my 4x5 HIE work I used Lisco holders, and
never had any problems. As per usual practice though I never exposed
any sheet film holders to more sunlight than absolutely necessary.
