It is the USB plug.  The whole thing is detached and rattling around 
inside the case.

I use Acronis and have everything backed up on a separate Western 
Digital 1T drive.

That's basically what I'm planning to do with the main storage out 
here at the farm on a Drobo.

Yes, I was very disappointed to find 2 250 GB Maxtor drives inside my 
Lacie 500GB external drive!
