Leica never developed an adequate response to the SLR conundrum. But I  
think it finally might of with the advent of the M8-9. Thankfully it  
stuck to its roots.
Frankly, I think that the SLR wave, of the late 60's to the late 80's,  
produced some of the most dreadful work within photography. Thanks to  
Canon, Nikon, Pentax, et al.
