You can run any number of free or paid dictionaries on the pad.

I really think Kindle and iPad qualify as two different devices.
One is to read books primarily with text.
The other is to do that and many, many more tasks for both business and 
entertainment.
Omnifocus (a project management app) synchs perfectly with my laptop version.
The pad records sound for meeting notes, etc.

They're really not comparable.
