As for?HDR, it has a place in my toolkit. This photo from last week is a blending of 7 exposures. I could not have captured the shadow detail in?forground and also show snow detail on the far, right mountain without it. It's actually what my eye saw and what I wanted to produce (it still would need a bit more work if I decide to print): http://www.rgaphoto.com/2011-01-Yosemite/content/RGA_Photo__001075_HDR_MASTER_large.html I like?Tina's photo very much. It holds my interest extremely well (I'm drawn into the frame and it?doesn't let me go!). I didn't notice the?"manipulation" other's did because the photo itself was so engaging. The added detail from the PS action only held my interest more. Tools?are a personal choice. I only assume that an artist like Tina (and other's) here use them for a purpose. Sort of feels like the old arguement that cropping is sacrelidge... Seems to be a very popular "newish" genre with lots of practitioners around the globe. And it seems to me to be an area where, in the right hands, the subject, style and effects merge well to express something worthwhile. The same can be said of those doing the best work in night photography and other high dynamic range subjects. I do think that Viveca Koh's work stands a bit above many others riding this particular train; because while she's obviously using special effects the effects seem necessary to achieve, and at the service of, her very strong vision. Too many others it's the opposite. No sense of their vision - just a lot of special effects. as always YMMV > On Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 2:29 PM, George Lottermoser <imagist3 at > mac.com>wrote: > >> Here's a photographer that seems, to me, to use Fx to successfully achieve >> her vision and style: >> < >>http://vivecakohphotography.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Fine-Art-Special-Effects-Urban-Exploration/G0000DcoLCJePo0s/I0000oKTTCu6XTDg >>g Regards, George Lottermoser george at imagist.com http://www.imagist.com http://www.imagist.com/blog http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
