Sure, the 24-105 ain't the R28-90 Asph but it really gets the job done for me - and obviously - for you. Try as I might, my (somewhat older) eyes and hands couldn't get shots like that to appear as I saw them through the viewfinder of the R8/9, mostly due to film scan resolution and a general lack of skill. I toyed with an adaptor for my Leica R lenses but in the end, the 5D Mk II kit just made more sense for me. I remember that spot well. I attended the (then) Army Language School for a year in the mid-'60's, studying Farsi (Persian). In good weather we would blast out of the Presidio at lunch time over to Carmel just in time to eat a quick lunch on the public beach and watch the, er, sea life. That's an iconic shot of the bay if I ever saw one. Lovely.
