I can use the GG and Hassy finders (I like the RMfx) to focus. No need to range find at all. Besides, the range finder is useless for T/S. 2. The IQ does not have live view and, when it does, may or may not be worthwhile. That said, the after-shot review screen at 100% is definitely usable to check out focus post shot. 3. The 60MP backs are a Dalsa chip and not the Kodak chip. So there is no long exposure AND with night shots, they have noise scrubbing in the firmware that takes out star trails (not a big deal, until you're in Monument National Park at night...) 4. I can stitch with this puppy without moving the lens. So I get about 84mm of image circle coverage with 3 shots and the back on vertically. Now I can use T/S and stitch. and at 20% the weight of a Hassy kit with similar lens.... Excuse me, what's not to like? ;-) Bob Adler Palo Alto, CA http://www.rgaphoto.com ________________________________ From: Richard Man <richard at imagecraft.com> To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> Sent: Fri, May 6, 2011 12:44:46 PM Subject: Re: [Leica] Alpa STC The biggest problem I see with the Alpa, is really that once you throw in the money to get the great lens and movement, then you want, wait, wait, I meant, NEED, one of those new IQ series back so you can have liveview and use it for focus. Otherwise, you use a dinky little Leica laser rangerfinder and a High Precision Mount which is nowhere near as fun, I meant, precise. So now you're staring at a $20,000 40 megapixel back. Well, $9500 if one have a P45 back to trade in. But really, you may as well get the 60 meg back. That has to be the sweet spot for optimal quality images. *** Or a cheap 8x10 and scan film :-) -- // richard <http://www.imagecraft.com/> // icc blog: <http://imagecraft.com/blog/> // photo blog: <http://www.5pmlight.com> [ For technical support on ImageCraft products, please include all previous replies in your msgs. ] _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
