You in effect paid less for more real estate. And the glass was nothing to be embarrassed about. A photographer visiting here from Japan told me (in a Denny's) way back that every 35mm photographer he knew in Japan had one at the bottom of his camera bag just for those medium format emergencies. A slight exaggeration I'm sure.
