I think it might be more offensive (to the person herself) to call a se?orita a "se?ora". But I see Steve's point. The two daughters of our Director of Planning enrolled in one of my lectures (they are of Cuban ancestry), and even though I eat lunch with him, I would never refer to either of his daughters as a se?orita. It would seem to be referring to them as objects.
