     Gary,

I've used both Leica and DAG for repair work. Both do quality
work. If cost is your main concern, and you are willing to wait, go
for the Leica summer specials. I sent in a 40 Summicron-C back in
1988 for a Leica summer special CLA. It was focusing roughly and the
red dot was missing. For the total cost of the special, the lens came
back focusing almost like new, the aperture blades were cleaned and
re-oiled, the inscribed distance scales were refilled and the red dot
was replaced. It was great work. You really can't go wrong with the
     special.

If speed of return is a concern, then consider DAG. He is slightly
     quicker than Leica.

        Hope this helps.

     Pablo

I have an M4-2 which is in need of a rangefinder adjustment. It appears to be
a linear error (it focusses approximately 10% too far, ie at 5 ft the scale
indicates approx. 5.5 ft.) As best I can tell this error remains constant
over the entire focussing range. It almost seems as if the camera had been
modified to work with infrared film (I don't know, I bought it used).

Anyway, I'd like to get it repaired and am debating if I should send it to
Leica or DAG. I've heard that DAG does very good work, is there a price
difference ? I've also heard that Leica runs specials on repair services
each Summer, are the specials worth waiting for ?

The camera could probably also use a general CLA and the vulcanite is
cracked with several pieces missing. I'm thinking of having these
taken care of at the same time, Any idea how much this will cost?

I'd appreciate anyone's insites or experinces.

Thank in advance.
