The story, as it was told by the German magazine "Der Spiegel", was about like that:

The sultan of Brunei wanted to have a little present that he could give to official guests of his country. So he asked Leica to build a series of 200 M6 cameras with golden cover plates and his official symbol engraved on it. Leica said they would be pleased to do it but they didn't have the machine to do the engravings. No problem, the sultan [who is supposed to be one of the world's richest men] donated it to them. [I'm quite sure this was the machine that engraved Schumacher's autograph on the M6 that I saw on Cologne...]

The sultan liked what he got and ordered another series of 200. Afterwards, some Leica officials visited him and presented an M6 with special engravings to their generous customer. During the ceremony the sultan asked: "Does it have autofocus?"

Bye, Edi.
