Basically, Flash synch is easier and more reliable with the red dial.  Also,
too me, the red dial always seemed smoother to operate. Frankly, as I was
stationed in Germany in 1953, more or less as the black dial changed to red,
I remember that Germany had very clearly not quite recovered from the war.
As I made my first visit to Wetzlar, the factory was not quite ready for
prime time.  Yes, it was precise, but it continued to get better as time
passed. 

The film leader business is more important than you might think.  If the
leader is not trimmed properly, probably nothing bad will happen.  BUT, the
strong chance of film chips can occur, and eventually, that can cause
shutter problems.
