I don't know much about the new 2.8 50mm Elmar; but the original version I
use came with a reversible very compact lenshood that accommodates the
screw-in filter easily. I never used the collapsable feature; in fact I
covered the tube with a strip of black contact to make certain the lens would
not collapse accidentally. The lock doesn't always prevent that from
happening. 

Otherwise, the 2.8 is a very neat job and produces high resolution.
