The latest issue of Color Foto (9/96) enthusiastically touts the new
Vario Elmar-R 80-200 f4.0 as a sensation and better than nearly allfixed
focal lenses. "It delivers undreamed-of quality!" The lens scores an
85.5 (out of a theoretical perfect 100) which is greater than all Canon
and Nikon zooms and better than ALL non Leica fixed focus lenses. The
new zoom is within a hair's breadth of the legendary Vario Apo Elmarit-R
70-180 f2.8 zoom which scored an 87.4. At roughly 1/3rd the price of the
Vario Apo it is a bargbain to boot.

The back cover has a Leica advert. showing a shadowed portion of the new
R8. The bulbous configuration of the right side opf the camera body
would imply a built in motor. It looks very clean and sexy. Can't wait!
