I do kind of like that R8.  But I realize that I like it in the way
that I like my wife's Saab.  It's kind of unusual-looking in a nice
sort of way and has a lot of fancy doodads, but when it comes right
down to it I prefer the more spartan appointments of my own ex-police
car.  Or my R6.2.

Incidentally, the predicted japes and howls of the rec.photo set,
saying that the camera is hideous, have indeed materialized, and make
up most of the discussion of the R8 in those newsgroups.

I think it's interesting that Leica are introducing it at a lower
price than the R7 (wasn't that $2795 when it first came out?).  If
they keep this up, they'll get down into the price range of the top
Nikons and Canons.
