You are quite right. Leica's own literature talks about such practices. And
I think your audio metaphor is quite correct, but it's more because maybe
the test numbers are really meaningless for many of the testers. They are
testing the wrong things. That's how Leica equipment continually does
poorly at Pop Photo, compared to much cheaper equipment. It's the test
that's flawed, not the equipment it's testing.
