I got to fondle the G2 the other day. What I find most striking is
the layout of the manual focusing knob on the front. Very reminiscent
of the old Contax II's, and III's and the Nikon Rangefinders. I
didn't like those knobs when I had a Contax IIa, and still don't like
     them.

Friends,

I just saw the G2.

It is as big as an M6. Its lines are very unclean. In particular, the real
assembly of the viewfinder looks like an afterthought. It also lacks the
clarity and magnification of the M6. In fact, the view in the viewfinder is
no better than the view in most wunderplastick point-and-shoot cameras.

It feels cheap. In particular, the focus-by-wire wheel feels like it might
fall off. This camera should cost $300, not $3000. The MiniZoom is a much
better deal and probably takes comparable-quality photos.

The G2 has so many bells and whistles that I feel lost. I admit that I like
simplicity, but this camera simply has too many options.

Yet, the people at Glazers in Seattle claim that the G2 will sell well.

In conclusion, the G2 is not a Leica killer.

Best regards,

Chris
