Subject: Q about light meter in M6

I'm thinking about a change from my Contax G1 system to the M6.
One important point for this change is the selective light meter
of the M6 in comparison to the integral meter of the G1 or G2.

When using let's say a 35 mm lens the measuring area of the M6
is already quite large and you get more a kind of integral measure
than a precise spot metering.

In J. Estlands book "Leica M compendium" he explains on p.130-132 that
changing the frame of the M6 with the preselector lever has an influence
on the actual size of the measuring area of the light meter. This means
that I get a smaller measurment area when I change the frame to 135 mm
still using a 35 mm lens.

This sounds too great for me but I can't believe it because I think
the focal length of the lens determines the actual measurment area
of the light meter and by switching the frame doesn't change the
size of the light meter area.

Can anybody help me in this point?

Thank you
