There isn't any question that one should use the tools to allow them the
opportunity to do the job to the best of their ability.

I've used EOS1 gear shooting sports and I believe I've said this before, that no
matter how fast I think I can manually focus, that Canon whiz bang system is
faster! And I don't care who thinks they can out beat the electronic eye.

I always figured I could follow focus and snap focus as fast as the best and
proved it time after time, but just try and go up against the autofocus of today
and it'll call your hand every time.

There are two ways to look at the gear when some of these lads are making points
on one kind of focus, good, bad or ugly or whether it is the be all to end all.
And that is some of us work on assignments where autofocus doesn't mean a thing,
we really don't need it. But as you say,  if I were newspaper shooting and
sports daily I'd be into Canon autofocus everything as the type of work requires
some extra tools to make the job easier and you to look more efficient.

I guess someday Leica may have an autofocus system to effectively drive the big
glass quickly, but quite frnkly I'm not holding my breathe. And it isn't a big
deal in any event.  Besides with Leica prices the damn autofocus will only add
another $3000.00 to the price of an R whatever! :)
