Subject: Q: High Speed Close-up Photography

Close-up photography is one of those thing that I enjoy doing, but
mostly still targets of plants and insects or weather beaten wooden
frames or rusty nails. after reading the book "Caught in motion" by
Stephen Dalton, I am thrilled by the stunning pictures of those close-up
shots of insects, birds and animals that were captured in dynamic
action.

Surely one must know well about the behavioral patterns of the subject
to anticipate its flight path or motion, but it cannot be done without
the help of electronic gears, such as high power strobes/flash that can
produce sufficient light in a short duration of 1/10,000 sec. to freeze
the action, (I believe high power is needed because of the small
aperture required to give sufficient DOF.) and also the Infra red light
trigger for the flash.

Question time:
Does any one out there has some kind of experience in taking such
pictures? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Are those electronic gears mentioned above need to be custom made or are
they off -the-self items? Where can I get them? Any other gears
required?

Does the camera shuttle needs to be modified in any way for this kind of
photography?

Cheers,
