[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]Dan - etal Leitz used to mark their 50/3.5 Elmars with a # from 0 to 9, standing for 1/10 of a mm (true focal length as opposed to marked FL) and even earlier, the model 1(A) & 1(C) had a peephole in the rear of the body, which could be uncovered & a magnifier was used to check the aerial image & focus was compensated for by shims. Longer lenses had the true FL written inside in pencil. Of course this was before diecast bodies & improved quality control of today (supposedly) and that is why I am so adamant about QC. There is no excuse for the M6 plastic gear debaucle regardless of it being made in Solms, Wetzlar or Portugal. Leica ought to offer a free chk so that the stigma would be gone regardless of the statistics which can be compiled to make any point; pro or con. Cheers *************Marvin Moss
