I have seen this effect at 1000 & 500 with flouresecent lighting on an M2.  A possible culprit here?  Were you using daylight lighting?

A 2 stop difference at 1000 would put the shutter at 1/4000  second!  There must be another cause.

Try the same test outdoors using chrome.
