Maybe I'm oversimplyfying things a bit, but I find when photographing in
VERY dark areas, that I am usually only interected in what is in the
central part of the picture.  I find that it doesn't really matter if the
outer areas of the view fade into darkness.  It may even help the composition.

There is a photo in the current (?) M6 brochure on page 11 that seems to
illustrate this.  They don't say what lens was used for it, but it is
definitely a wide open kind of shot.
