I have an SL and like it for certain things. However, it's an OLD camera
and could have a lot of things wrong with it. Things you get with the RE
and other later bodies include:
- - options for data back, winder, motor drive
- - changable viewing screens including a split-image
- - auto exposure
- - more sensitive metering system.
- - options for metering system.
- - hot shoe
- - choice of lenses that won't work on SL - check with Leica in NJ for list.
The list goes on.

For $2,000 you would have many choices other than the RE/Zoom. I'd look
around some more. If the SL has been recently overhauled and is in great
condition, you could start there and eventually use it as a backup body.

Hello LUGgers,

I was offered a Leica SL plus a 2/50 Summicron for $625. And a Leica
RE plus a Vario Elmar 28-70 for $2000. The SL has got minor scratches
and a few unfortunate cleaning marks. Not on the lens, though. The RE
is new, as in New In The Box. I like the RE, but think the SL price is
more reasonable.

Could you please help me take the right kind of decisions..
