Rectulanger lens hoods are slightly better than round lens hoods. However, the
best lens hood is one that you always use, and I find that I always extend the
built in hood on my 50mm f2, and I don't always find and mount separate lens
hoods. I suspect there  would be few occasions when the superiority of the
rectulanger hood could be discerned from inspection of images.
