I have been carrying the gitzo 1228 for over a year also- would not be without
it now and with a cable release you can not beat the combination.  I just
returned from Antarctica with a R8, 70-180 mm F2.8 APO and you really learn to
appreciate the 1228.  It will tweek up any slide.
