I believe that it is a mistake to place film in checked luggage even within a  lead
bag as checked luggage is subject to stronger X-ray surveillance than carry-on
luggage.  They will crank up the output of the x-ray machine to expose what is in the
lead bags thereby really ruining your film.  I hand the film in transparent film
canisters to the attendant when checking my carry-on luggage.   I  place the film in
Velvia canisters grouped in a gallon or half gallon zip bags to make this inspection
process faster.  Hope that this helps.
