The Arca Swiss B1 is a great ball head, but so is the Linhof Profi II. The
B1 gets all the attention, so I feel the need to plug the Linhof. I tested
my R6's with both heads for about an hour at Keeble & Shuchat in Palo Alto,
CA, and came away with the Linhof. The B1 is a little bigger, and maybe
better for longer lenses. But the Linhof is probably more reliable and made
at least as well if not better.

The Arca Swiss B1 is an excellent head. I can recommend it for your
consideration. This head has been discussed many times in the general
photography forum and the nature photography forum of PhotoNet. The
comments
are uniformly positive. Whenever heads are discussed, it seems that the B1
is
the one that receives the greatest attention and most recommendations.

From my experience with it I can say that it is very steady, well designed
and
smooth. It has an adjustable control that governs the drag, It also allows
horizontal panning with the ball locked.

It comes with a fast release plate. You can purchase other size plates for
different camera bodies (or lens mounts).
