Mike--

Absolutely great post.  I think you were correct in every way.

I think one problem we photographers have is the rush to judgement when we
look at photographs.  We need to take more time and consider (before any
judgement) what is really in the photograph and what the photographer might
have intended.
Look, absorb, and learn--then feel free to make judgements.

Also, by putting work up around you you can learn is ways that are
different than just leafing through.  Do they begin to stand the test of
time.  Another way of evaluating (for me and my work) is to put it away for
awhile and then come back to it and see if you still are moved by it and is
it still fresh and exciting.
