I trick you can try:  The R8 holds the exposure reading for several seconds
after pushing the mirror lock up.  The shutter is so smooth and quiet -
that you can hand hold at very slow speeds. Focus the frame, with the MLU
enabled,  push the shutter partly down to release the mirror - then again
to release the shutter.  Of course, if you are trying to follow action this
won't work.
