The evaluation of the Noctilux made by the french review "Chasseur
d'images" is objective, i.e made with the MTF analysis.Leica Camera does
the same and publishes some of the results (not for the Noctilux, of course
!It's too bad!)
At full aperture, the resolution is "weak".The vignetting is high : 1.5 d
and the distortion very high :1.1%.
At medium aperture (5.6) the lens is quoted "very good" only, which is
inferior to the Summicron quoted "excellent".
Now the objective evaluation must be completed by a subjective one. If you
want to shoot without a flash
in the
dark the NocTlux is the best choice for you. The weak resolution, the high
vignetting and the very high distortion are minor facts. The essential is
the good correction of the coma.
