Subject: [Leica] Tough lens coating

This morning I performed an unwitting test of the lens coating on my 105mm
Nikon Macro lens. Even though it passed, I am still glad it wasn't on one
of my M lenses.
I was photographing cherry blossoms against the blue sky when a shadow
passed over me. A bird had made a very large deposit on my up turned lens.
I rushed inside and carefully wiped the deposit off the lens with a paper
towel and then cleaned the front element with a Q Tip and lens cleaning
fluid I used a tooth brush to clean out the barrel of the lens.
The glass looks fine, but there is a slight grating sound when I focus, but
everything looks ok.
Maybe there is something to be said for a UV filter after all
